Los Angeles Dodgers prospects Jason Martin and Miguel Vargas both received postseason honors for their outstanding 2022 seasons with Triple-A Oklahoma City. Martin was selected to the Pacific Coast League All-Star Team as one of three outfielders and Vargas was named the PCL’s top MLB prospect.
League All-Star Teams and individuals awards were voted on by managers.
Martin led all Triple-A players with 107 RBI and tied for the PCL lead with 32 home runs. He batted an overall .285/.374/.564 in 129 games, and his RBI total was the most by an OKC player during a single season.
Martin became the first OKC player with at least 30 homers and at least 100 RBI since 1993. He also led the PCL with 62 extra-base hits and 265 total bases, and tied for first with 100 runs scored.
Vargas tore the cover off the ball to the tune of a .304/.404/.511 batting line with 32 doubles, 17 home runs and 82 RBI in 113 games.
Vargas’ batting average and on-base percentage ranked second among qualified PCL players, and his .915 on-base plus slugging was good for third. He tied Martin for the PCL lead with 100 runs scored despite not playing in a Triple-A game after Aug. 30.
Vargas played in the All-Star Futures Game at Dodger Stadium and went on to make his MLB debut the following month. He appeared in 18 games for the Dodgers and hit just .170/.200/.255 with one double, one home run and eight RBI.
Despite his struggles, Vargas was included on the Dodgers’ National League Division Series roster against the San Diego Padres. Although he didn’t play in a game, the 22-year-old appreciated being with the team.
