While Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Zack Greinke waits for the window to open to officially announced whether or not he’ll opt out of his contract, he continues to accumulate personal accolades.
Greinke was named a finalist for the 2015 Gold Glove Award on Thursday by Rawlings. He’s pitted against Jake Arrieta of the Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Gerrit Cole.
Greinke won the award, the first of his career, last season. Earlier in the week he was named to Sporting News National League All-Star team. Greinke finished fourth in the voting for Sporting News MLB Player of the Year.
Last year the Dodgers led the National League with four nominees: first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, third baseman Juan Uribe and pitchers Zack Greinke and Clayton Kershaw. Gonzalez is the only Dodger to join Greinke as a finalist in 2015.
This season the right-handed athlete had 19 putouts, 41 assists, two errors and two double plays in 62 chances over 222.2 innings pitched.
Last year Greinke committed one error, turned eight double plays, had 28 putouts and 30 assists in 59 chances over 202.1 innings pitched.
Greinke’s .962 fielding percentage ranked 32nd among qualified pitchers this season, though per FanGraphs, his nine defensive runs saved led all NL pitchers and trailed only Houston Astros lefty Dallas Keuchel’s 13 DRS.
Finishing the year 19-3 with an MLB-best 1.66 ERA, 225 ERA+ and 0.84 WHIP, Greinke is in the thick of the NL Cy Young race, in which he and Arrieta are the frontrunners.
Managers and coaches will vote on the Gold Glove finalists, with winners announced Nov. 10.
