Los Angeles Dodgers Minor League pitcher Wilmer Font was named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week for a second time this season. Font’s latest recognition comes for the period of July 10-16. He was previously named PCL Pitcher of the Week for May 15-21.

Font made only one start during the stretch that earned him PCL honors, throwing six innings in a home outing against the New Orleans Baby Cakes (Miami Marlins affiliate). He allowed just one run on three hits, and collected eight strikeouts.

Font retired 11 of the first 12 hitters and threw 56 of 79 pitches for strikes. On the season, Font is 7-5 with a 3.91 and 1.12 WHIP in 18 starts.

He set an Oklahoma City franchise record in May with 15 strikeouts in a single start. It was part of a stretch where he reached double-digit strikeouts in three of four starts.

The right-hander earned the start in the 2017 Triple-A All-Star Game last week. Font needed all of four pitches to throw a 1-2-3 first inning, which was his only bit of work.

Font leads all of Minor League Baseball with 127 strikeouts this season, and is pacing the PCL in WHIP, opponents’ batting average (.222), strikeouts-per-nine innings (12.12) and fewest baserunners-per-nine innings (10.21).
