The Los Angeles Dodgers and L.A. Lakers each boast a rich tradition that has the two franchises considered among the most iconic in all of professional sports. However, their history has remained exactly that as both teams have failed to add to their championships.

Although the Dodgers reached the World Series in 2017 and 2018, their last title came in 1988. They were a World Series favorite this season, only to be eliminated by eventual champion Washington Nationals in the National League Division Series.

Meanwhile, the Lakers haven’t won an NBA title since 2010. They face lofty expectations this season after acquiring Anthony Davis during a blockbuster trade in the summer.

Before Davis donned the iconic purple and gold jerseys, he was the first pitch honoree for Lakers Night at Dodger Stadium. Davis visited the Dodgers clubhouse, where he met players and manager Dave Roberts.

The exchange was particularly notable for Kentucky native Walker Buehler, as seen on Spectrum SportsNet:

“I remember 2012, my senior year in high school was his freshman year at UK. They’d had some pretty good teams but hadn’t gotten it done, and that team got it done. So it was pretty cool for me. I was wearing a t-shirt that says, ‘I’m a bucket on it,’ and that’s a UK basketball shirt. I’ll be keeping up with the Lakers and ‘Cats.”

Buehler certainly did his part to help the Dodgers end their championship drought, going 14-4 with a 3.26 ERA, 3.01 FIP and 1.04 WHIP in 30 starts. He started Games 1 and 5 of the NLDS and was stellar in both outings.

With the Dodgers’ postseason run ending in disappointment, Davis is looking to help the Lakers bring a title back to L.A. He’s formed a dominant duo with LeBron James that has the Lakers with the best record in the NBA.
