The Los Angeles Dodgers will be without Trevor Bauer at least until Friday as he was placed on seven-day administrative leave. Major League Baseball can request an extension at the completion of that timeframe, but would need approval from the Players Association.

“MLB’s investigation into the allegations made against Trevor Bauer is ongoing,” the league said in a statement. “While no determination in the case has been made, we have made the decision to place Mr. Bauer on seven-day administrative leave effective immediately.

“MLB continues to collect information in our ongoing investigation concurrent with the Pasadena Police Department’s active criminal investigation. We will comment further at the appropriate time.”

As in all cases of MLB putting a player on the restricted list and paid administrative leave, Bauer had 24 hours to appeal the ruling. However, his agents, Rachel Luba and Jon Fetterolf, said no such action will be taken, per Juan Toribio of MLB.com:

“We reaffirm our original statement and refute [the woman’s] allegations in the strongest possible terms. Mr. Bauer will not appeal MLB’s decision to place him on administrative leave at this time in an effort to minimize any distraction to the Dodgers organization and to his teammates.

“Of note, administrative leave is neither a disciplinary action nor does it in any way reflect a finding in the league’s investigation.”

Along with MLB, Bauer remains under investigation by the Pasadena Police Department for alleged sexual assault of a 27-year-old woman from San Diego.

Because the league launched an investigation, the Dodgers were not permitted to take any sort of disciplinary action on their own accord.

What’s ahead for Bauer?

Commissioner Rob Manfred has the authority to suspend a player under the joint domestic violence policy even if charges are not filed. Bauer is scheduled for a court hearing on July 23.
