Dodgers News: Rob Segedin Recalled From Triple-A Oklahoma City, Rich Hill Placed On Disabled List

To no surprise, the Los Angeles Dodgers placed Rich Hill on the 10-day disabled list and recalled Rob Segedin from Triple-A Oklahoma City. The DL stint is Hill’s second of the season and month. He missed five weeks last year due to chronic blisters.

Hill returned Sunday, only to have his start come to a halt after three innings. He warmed up to start the fourth inning but after a brief conversation with manager Dave Roberts and a trainer, was replaced by Ross Stripling.

Roberts later said Hill’s blister was not as bad as initially feared, but the team remained at a loss over what action to take. Hill half-heartedly said he was in search of a ‘medical miracle.’

He allowed two runs on five hits, including a home run, prior to being lifted. On the season, Hill has thrown a combined eight innings in two starts. He’s pitched to a 3.38 ERA, 6.30 FIP and 1.50 WHIP.

The Dodgers re-signed the 37-year-old during the offseason to a three-year, $48 million contract. At the time of formally announcing the deal, Hill and Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman voiced confidence last year’s blister trouble was put to bed.

Hill reiterated that sentiment during the spring. His latest trouble isn’t believed to be as serious, though Hill acknowledged it could worsen and get to that extreme.

Rob Segedin batted .324/.342/.541 with two doubles, two home runs and five RBI in nine games with Oklahoma City. Segedin hit safely in seven of the nine games for the OKC, while recording five multi-hit games.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts cited Segedin’s versatility and previous experience as reason he was selected for the promotion. Segedin hit .233/.301/.370 with two doubles, one triple, two home runs and 12 RBI in 40 games with the Dodgers last season.

He’s starting at first base and batting seventh in Monday’s lineup. The Arizona Diamondbacks start left-hander Robbie Ray.
