The Los Angeles Dodgers placed Rob Segedin on the paternity list and reinstated rich hill from the 15-day disabled list. Hill makes his Dodgers debut Wednesday night against the San Francisco Giants.

Segedin, who welcomed his first child late Tuesday evening, is permitted to be on the paternity list for a maximum of three days, but Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the utility man will return Thursday.

Segedin started the series opener against the Giants and went 1-for-4 with a solo home run hit off Madison Bumgarner. The homer was Segedin’s second in as many games.

He was removed in the eighth inning as part of a double switch and raced to the hospital to be by his wife’s side. The couple welcomed their first child, a son, at 11:36 p.m. PT.

Overall this season, Segedin is batting .286/.325/.486 with 12 RBI in 15 games (eight starts) with the Dodgers. He set a franchise record with four RBI in his Major League debut.

Hill takes the mound in a Major League game the first time since July 17 when he was still with the Oakland Athletics. However, the outing only lasted five pitches as Hill was forced to be removed after the blister on the middle finger of his left hand ripped open.

The 36-year-old southpaw was scratched from three previously scheduled starts for the Dodgers. Hill enters 9-3 with a 2.25 ERA.
