Among the various wagers that were placed on the 2017 World Series was one between Rep. Jimmy Gomez (D – Los Angeles) and Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D – Houston), which had Texas BBQ and Philippe’s French Dipped Sandwiches on the line, plus a congratulatory message that was to be delivered on the House floor.

The House members came to terms on their agreement a few days prior to the World Series beginning. Nearly one week after the Astros emerged victorious in a seven-game series, Gomez made good on the bargain.

He arranged for the sandwiches to be packed with dry ice inside a piece of luggage that was checked in for a cross-country flight. Gomez and his staff assembled the sandwiches in his office and carried them through two congressional buildings to make the delivery.

The cart, expectedly, featured Dodgers memorabilia, including a ‘This Team’ rally towel. “The Astros finally earned history this season by winning their first World Series title,” Gomez said on the Floor.

“But they weren’t the only ones to earn something by beating LA. Congresswoman Jackson Lee also earned some of LA’s iconic Philippe’s French Dip sandwiches as part of our friendly wager.

“The excitement of this World Series is the reason why I have been a Dodgers fan since I played Little League as a kid. The Boys in Blue were on fire throughout the season, with both teams setting a World Series record for the most homers in a series.

“I paid up my debt by personally hand delivering Philippe’s French Dipped Sandwiches to Rep. Jackson Lee. I may have praised the Astros on the House floor, but I will always be a Dodgers fan because I bleed blue!”
