Los Angeles Dodgers prospect D.J. Peters was named the 2017 California League MVP as well as Rookie of the Year. Peters was also included on the California League Post-Season All-Stars team.

He’s the first Rancho Cucamonga Quakes player to earn MVP honors since Corey Seager in 2014, and they’re joined by Brandon Wood (2005) as the only Cal League MVPs in Quakes franchise history. Rookie of the Year is presented to a player who’s in his first full season as a professional.

Peters, selected by the Dodgers in the fourth round of the 2016 Draft, spent last year with Rookie-level Ogden. He batted .351/.437/.615 with 24 doubles, three triples, 13 home runs and 48 RBI in 66 games.

This season, Peters is hitting .285/.382/.524 with 28 doubles, five triples, 24 home runs and 75 RBI through 121 games with the Quakes.

He leads the Cal League in slugging percentage (.524), on-base plus slugging (.906), extra-base hits (56), walks (60) and total bases (241). Peters is second in home runs (24), fourth in on-base percentage (.382), tied for fourth in RBI (74) and seventh in total hits (129).

The Glendora, Calif., native was named California League Player of the Week on three separate occasions this season. One of which came days after Peters slugged two home runs in a single inning off Madison Bumgarner, who was making a rehab start.
