Fresh off helping the Los Angeles Dodgers end their World Series drought and being named a Gold Glove winner, Mookie Betts added more hardware to his mantle in the form of a Silver Slugger. Betts earned a Silver Slugger Award for a third consecutive season and fourth time overall.
Betts became the sixth player in Dodgers franchise history to win a Gold Glove and Silver Slugger in the same season, joining Cody Bellinger (2019), Adrían González (2014), Matt Kemp (2011), Russell Martin (2007) and Dusty Baker (1981).
Overall, Betts represents the 20th Dodgers player and 28th time a member of the organization has received a Louisville Silver Slugger Award since its inception in 1980.
Winners are determined by managers and coaches who vote for those they believe produced the best offensively at each position (excluding those on their team). Selections are based on a combination of offensive statistics such as batting average, on-base percentage and slugging, along with managers’ and coaches’ general impressions of a player’s overall offensive value.
Betts appeared in 55 games this past season, batting .292/.366/.562 with nine doubles, 16 home runs, 39 RBI and 10 stolen bases. Among other categories, he tied for third in the National League in home runs, ranked fourth in runs scored (47), tied for fifth in stolen bases and tied for 10th in total hits (64).
Betts reached 1,000 career hits and 500 RBI during the season, and now is one of 18 outfielders with at least four Silver Slugger Awards.
While it is a regular-season award, the 28-year-old remained a focal point in the Dodgers lineup throughout their World Series run. Betts hit safely in 14 of 18 postseason games, registering eight doubles, two home runs, eight RBI and six stolen bases.
