Los Angeles Dodgers All-Star Mookie Betts completed a terrific statistical season in 2023 and he’s off to another incredible start in 2024 thus far.
Betts has earned nearly every on-field accolade, including an MVP Award, Silver Sluggers, Gold Gloves, All-Star selections, World Series championships and more. Despite all that, he still has a long career left with numerous awards likely in his future.
But with nearly a decade left on his contract with the Dodgers, Betts isn’t letting that stop him from thinking about and preparing for what’s next, per Bill Shaikin of the L.A. Times:
“My wife is like, ‘You’re going to have a midlife crisis when you’re done playing, and you’re not going to know how to handle it,’ ” Betts said. “So when you hear something like that, it took me a little bit to register it. Obviously, I’m taking care of my job, right? But you also have to take time to prepare for the next chapter in life. I don’t want to have that midlife crisis.”
Betts has dabbled into off field ventures, including media work with podcasts, gaming and being featured in commercials.
Betts wrapped up last season working as a media correspondent during the 2023 World Series between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Texas Rangers. He provided a behind the scenes look for fans, while producing content and interviewing players.
As one of the more social personalities around MLB, Betts was an ideal active player to provide his own spin on World Series coverage.
Mookie Betts media work
Early on in the 2023 season, Betts took part in a regular podcast through Bleacher Report, that featured numerous big league players.
Throughout the 2023 season, Betts sat down with Aaron Judge, Clayton Kershaw, Mike Trout, Francisco Lindor, Jason Heyward, Christian Yelich, Corbin Caroll, and many others. ‘On Base with Mookie Betts’ aired on the Bleacher Report app, also posted on YouTube, featured long-form interviews covering a wide range of topics.
Betts’ ability to connect with players as a current MLB athlete, bridged a gap between being an athlete and gave a peak into who they are off the field.
Betts’ podcast has returned in 2024, with Tyler Glasnow among the players he’s interviewed.
