The revised 2022 Los Angeles Dodgers schedule because of the MLB lockout added a few quirks, including doubleheaders at Dodger Stadium and six-game homestand against the Colorado Rockies to close out the regular season.
Up first is a doubleheader with the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday, with games scheduled for 12:10 p.m. and 7:10 p.m. PT, which the Dodgers had to reshuffle their starting rotation for.
Clayton Kershaw was a probable to pitch one of the games, but he has been pushed up a day due to Tyler Anderson going on paternity leave. MLB rules for the paternity list require Anderson to miss at least three days but no more than seven. Kershaw nevertheless is in line to start Monday on five days’ rest.
As for the twin bill, Michael Grove is remaining in the Dodgers rotation and listed as the probable to a start one of the games against the Diamondbacks.
Grove was recalled this past Wednesday for a spot start in the series finale at Chase Field. That came one night after the Dodgers won their ninth National League West title in the past 10 seasons. That Grove would make another turn in the rotation appeared likely when he didn’t get optioned back to Triple-A Oklahoma City the following day.
If Anderson is not yet ready to return from paternity leave, the Dodgers could recall Andre Jackson despite the requisite 15 days since being optioned not yet passing. Such a rule does not apply for the extra player permitted in the event of a doubleheader. Neither will the option, assuming Jackson is immediately sent back to Oklahoma City.
Michael Grove improving with Dodgers
For Grove, the start will be another opportunity to continue building some momentum in his debut season with the Dodgers. The right-hander earned praise from manager Dave Roberts after filling in for the injured Tony Gonsolin on short notice, and Grove followed that with a career-high five innings pitched last week.
