Lance Lynn turned in a quality start as the Los Angeles Dodgers closed out their final homestand of the 2023 season with a 3-2 walk-off win over the San Francisco Giants in 10 innings.
The veteran right-hander was provided an early lead thanks to James Outman’s two-run homer in the second inning. Lynn got through four scoreless frames before allowing a game-tying home run to LaMonte Wade Jr. in the fifth.
It was Lynn’s only blemish of the night as he gave up just the two runs in six innings of work. “Good,” Lynn said of his performance against the Giants. “I looked back at it and made one mistake on the home run pitch. Other than that, I threw the ball well.”
Lynn collected six strikeouts in the outing and has now punched out 12 batters over his last 11 innings. The right-hander had recorded only nine strikeouts in his previous five starts combined.
“Everything feels good. I’m in a good spot heading towards the postseason, so can’t complain,” Lynn said.
Aside from the home run, Lynn ran into some trouble in the third before escaping a bases-loaded jam by making a running catch on a Thairo Estrada bunt attempt to end the inning.
Lynn benefited from a similar situation against the San Diego Padres earlier this month, when Trent Grisham attempted to bunt his way on.
“Just gave me an out to get out of the inning, so I appreciate it,” Lynn said of Estrada’s bunt attempt.
Dave Roberts happy with Lance Lynn’s recent starts
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has seen improvement from Lynn over his last two starts and expects him to keep the momentum going in his final tune-up before the postseason. “We’re always evaluating,” Roberts began.
“I thought just like in Lance’s last outing, there was a lot more swing and miss. I think there were a couple walks in there that we would love to have back, but as far as the stuff, really good. I expect the same thing when he goes on Friday.”
