Kiké Hernandez became the latest Los Angeles Dodgers player to become involved in charitable efforts as he’s organized a campaign to raise money for those in Puerto Rico who were directly affected by Hurricane Maria.

Hernandez’s crowdsourcing campaign was launched in conjunction with his fiancée, Mariana Vicente. The two have family members living on the island. Hernandez was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

As of this writing, the couple has raised over $10,000, and have a goal of $100,000. Puerto Rico was not severely impacted by Hurricane Irma, but Maria has caused catastrophic damage. Strong winds and heavy rain toppled trees, shattered windows and demolished homes.

A flash flood watch was issued by the National Weather Service. More than 3 million citizens have been left without power, which has made communicating with family members impossible. Maria is the strongest storm to hit Puerto Rico since 1928.

The Dodgers organization, Clayton and Ellen Kershaw, and Yasiel Puig, among others, became involved to provide aid to Houston and the surrounding areas in the wake of Hurricane Harvey wreaking havoc on the region.

In addition to Hernandez, several MLB players with ties to Puerto Rico have begun to mobilize in providing or arranging for aid to reach those in need.
