The sports world was rocked Tuesday with the news that Tiger Woods suffered significant leg and ankle injuries in a single-car crash near Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. When first responders arrived to the scene, they used an ax and pry bar (“jaws of life”) to remove the golfer from his vehicle.
Woods was transported to the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center via ambulance, where he underwent “a long surgical procedure on his lower right leg and ankle,” according to a statement from his team.
Woods, who is currently awake and responsive, reportedly sustained two leg fractures and a shattered ankle. During the operation, orthopedic trauma specialists had to insert rods, screws and pins to stabilize his leg.
Los Angeles Dodgers Spanish language broadcaster Jaime Jarrín and Justin Turner were among the members of the organization to send their best thoughts to Woods on social media.
Tiger is in my prayers.

With Woods thankfully on the road to recovery, L.A. County Sheriff Alex Villanueva called it a miracle that no further damage was done. L.A. County Sheriff’s Deputy Carlos Gonzalez added that Woods wearing a seatbelt during the accident likely saved his life.
The 45-year-old has not played in a major tournament since last December after undergoing back surgery two days before Christmas. He had been in Southern California giving golf lessons to celebrities as part of a content shoot for Golf Digest/GOLFTV.
Former Dodgers pitcher Rich Hill praised Tiger for overcoming obstacles
When Woods won the 2019 Masters Tournament to capture his first major championship in 11 years, former Dodgers pitcher Rich Hill praised him for being able to overcome the past challenges he dealt with.
Hill was among the several Dodgers players who were glued to the TV in the clubhouse that afternoon.
