Josh Ravin (right groin strain) was among the five players placed on the 10-day disabled list when the Los Angeles Dodgers made their 2017 Opening Day roster official on Sunday. Ravin’s DL stint is retroactive to March 30, meaning he is eligible to return Monday, April 10.
Ravin first felt tightness in his groin on March 13. He threw a bullpen session eight days later, which aggravated the injury and erased any possibility of Ravin joining the Dodgers at the outset of the season.
He allowed eight runs on 10 hits, including a pair of home runs, walked four batters and struck out seven in 5.1 innings pitched over five Cactus League appearances.
Ravin saw his spring come to an end last year after sustaining a broken forearm in a car accident. He was then suspended 80 games by Major League Baseball for violation of the Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.
Ravin said he unknowingly ingested a banned substance while taking supplements in effort to accelerate his recovery from intestinal flu and strep throat. A mere five days after being reinstated from the restricted list, Ravin was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City in August.
He went on to appear in 10 games for the Dodgers, pitching to a 0.93 ERA and 0.62 WHIP, while recording 13 strikeouts in 9.2 innings.
Once the 29-year-old recovers from his groin injury, he’ll presumably be sent to Oklahoma City.
