It’s been a busy first week of the season for the Los Angeles Dodgers, particularly within the last couple of days as the club has completed several roster transactions. Tuesday saw them designate Jesus Liranzo for assignment in order to create room for Zach Neal on the 40-man roster.

Liranzo was just acquired by the Dodgers in Monday’s trade with the Baltimore Orioles. He was signed by the Atlanta Braves in May 2012 as a non-drafted free agent and remained with the organization until July 2013.

From that point forward, Liranzo was with the Orioles until they traded him to the Dodgers in exchange for Luis Ysla.

In 91 career Minor League games, Liranzo is 7-8 with a 3.71 ERA, with 202 strikeouts in 170 innings pitched, holding opponents to a .194 batting average. He spent all of last season with Double-A Bowie, where Liranzo was 3-4 with two saves and a 4.85 ERA.

Opponents hit .224 and Liranzo had 75 strikeouts compared to 43 walks in 65 innings across 31 games (12 starts) last season. If the right-hander is to clear waivers, the Dodgers could send him outright to the Minors.

Also on Tuesday, Trayce Thompson was claimed off waivers by the New York Yankees. The Dodgers designated Thompson for assignment as a corresponding move to adding Cory Mazzoni to the 40-man roster after a waiver claim. As fate would have it, Mazzoni then returned to the Chicago Cubs as they claimed him off waivers.
