The Los Angeles Dodgers starting rotation absorbed another loss Friday when Gavin Stone was placed on the 15-day injured list because of right shoulder inflammation.

Prior to that, Stone had been the only member of the Dodgers’ Opening Day rotation to make every start this season without interruption. The rookie has put together an impressive campaign that included bouncing back from a rough stretch.

But now Stone is in the same boat as Tyler Glasnow and Clayton Kershaw.

Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said Stone won’t be able to throw a baseball for more than a week and the team isn’t certain if he’ll return this season, per Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic:

Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said Stone will be shut down from throwing for at least 10 days. How Stone feels after that will determine how likely it is he pitches again for the Dodgers this year.

“It’s either going to work or it’s not,” Friedman said. “And I can sit here and say, I’m really optimistic, we just don’t know.”

Considering Stone is currently shut down from throwing, he presumably would only be able to make one start for the Dodgers before the regular season ends on Sunday, Sept. 29.

Glasnow is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Saturday, which could go a long way in determining if or when he’s able to return this year. Kershaw is wearing a walking boot and needs inflammation in his left big toe to subside before the Dodgers can have some sense of his outlook.

Gavin Stone’s season

Stone is 11-5 with a 3.53 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 25 starts this season. Stone endured a rough outing his last time pitching, allowing five runs over five innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Stone reported feeling right shoulder discomfort after that outing, which prompted the move to the injured list.
