Los Angeles Dodgers prospect Gavin Lux, who plays for High-A Rancho Cucamonga, was named the California League Player of the Week for April 23-29.
Lux was a first-round pick of the Dodgers in 2016 out of Indian Trail High School in Wisconsin, and seems to really be hitting his stride so far in the 2018 season.
In six games this past week, Lux went 10-for-24 with four doubles, five walks, a home run and six RBI, which is good for a .417/.517/.708. He also stole a base.
Overall in 22 games this season, the 20-year-old is hitting .310/.413/.437 with eight doubles, 13 RBI, 19 runs scored and three stolen bases. Lux has played both shortstop and second base for the Quakes, although a majority of his time has come at shortstop.
Lux saw some time in big league camp this past spring for the first time in his career, which may have done wonders for the young player. He recorded two hits in four at-bats while appearing in seven games with the Dodgers during the spring.
After a hot start to the season, the Quakes have lost five of their last seven games to drop to 11-13 on the season. Prospects like Lux, Connor Wong and Omar Estevez have all shown flashes of why they are so highly regarded in the organization though, so the first month of the season has widely been viewed as a success for Rancho Cucamonga.
In addition to Lux, the Dodgers saw Low-A Great Lakes first baseman Nick Yarnall named Midwest Player of the Week, and Justin De Fratus receive Texas League Pitcher of the Week honors while he was with Double-A Tulsa.
