Freddie Freeman was named National League Player of the Week for June 20-26, joining Cody Bellinger (April 18-24) as members of the Los Angeles Dodgers to earn the honor this season. AJ Pollock (July 5-11), Chris Taylor (July 19-25), Max Scherzer (Sept. 6-12) and Trea Turner (Sept. 27-Oct. 3) received recognition last season.

It’s the sixth time Freeman has earned NL Player of the Week and first time doing so since September 2016. He twice was named NL Player of the Month (September 2016 and 2020).

Freeman began his big week by helping lead the Dodgers to a season series sweep of the Cincinnati Reds. He carried some of that momentum into an emotional weekend against the Atlanta Braves for his first time at Truist Park as a visiting player.

Freeman hit safely in all six games during the past week, and batted .440/.533/.840 with six runs scored, 11 total hits, two doubles, one triple, two home runs, 11 RBI and four walks. Included in that was a four-game streak that saw Freeman score at least one run, an extra-base hit and RBI.

Overall, Freeman is on a season-best 10-game hitting streak and he enters play Monday having reached safely in 15 straight.

Freeman wants to move past Braves series

Freeman’s first time playing against the Braves came in April when they visited Dodger Stadium. The three-game series was surreal for the Southern California native but welcomed in that it provided Freeman with an opportunity to see former teammates for the first time since his free-agency decision.

Returning to Atlanta this past weekend was much more emotional for Freeman, who cried during a press conference before the series opener and again when presented with his 2021 World Series ring.

Freeman was emotional at other points as well, and after the Dodgers concluded the series with a comeback win in extra innings, he admitted to feeling a sense of relief with being able to move forward.
