St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt was voted the runaway winner of the 2022 National League MVP Award, though the Los Angeles Dodgers were represented by Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, Trea Turner and Julio Urías on the final ballot.
Freeman earned six votes for second and third place, 13 for fourth place, three for fifth, and one each for sixth and seventh, amounting to 220 points. Freeman missed out on both the NL Hank Aaron Award and the 2022 NL Outstanding Player Award to Goldschmidt as well.
Goldschmidt tallied 380 points, followed by NL MVP finalists San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado (291 points) and Cardinals teammate (232).
Betts received one vote for third and fourth place, 14 for fifth place, four for sixth, six for seventh, three for eighth and one ninth-place vote. He finished fifth in NL MVP voting with 154 overall points.
Like Freeman, Betts was a nominee for the 2022 NL Hank Aaron Award. Betts did win a Silver Slugger, Gold Glove and Fielding Bible Award this offseason.
Turner had votes for fourth place (one), seventh (two), eighth (two), ninth (three) and 10th (two). Turner’s 29 points were good for 11th place on the final NL MVP ballot. Turner did add hardware to his collection heading into free agency by way of a Silver Slugger.
Urías’ lone MVP vote was for third place. That gave him eight points and a 14th place finish. Urías surprisingly finished in third place for the NL Cy Young Award.
Dodgers MVP winners
Including the franchise’s time in Brooklyn, there have been 14 Dodgers MVP winners. The last of which was Cody Bellinger in 2019. Prior to him, Clayton Kershaw earned the award in 2014, along with a third career Cy Young.
