The Los Angeles Dodgers placed David Price on the COVID injured list April 24 after he began experiencing symptoms, which prompted taking a test that came back positive.
Price, who is fully vaccinated, was immediately isolated as the Dodgers finished their series at Petco Park and continued their road trip against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The 36-year-old stopped throwing while he recovered and was unable to join the team until he was symptom-free.
Price has now improved to the point where he can begin the process of working toward a return, which Dodgers manager Dave Roberts estimated would be at least one week away, via SportsNet LA:
“I know David Price is feeling much better. He’s going to make his way out to Arizona to do a buildup. His time to play, you’re looking at another week to 10 days.”
It is unclear if the veteran will need a Minor League rehab assignment before re-joining the club. Roberts noted it will mostly depend on how long Price remains out and how his arm rebounds after the brief shutdown:
“I think that’s more going to be on David and how he feels, and ultimately how long he’s going to be away from us.”
Prior to going on the IL, Price pitched to a 1.93 ERA and 1.07 WHIP over five relief appearances.
Dodgers avoided outbreak after Price tested positive
Before Price was placed on the injured list, he was walking around the Dodgers’ clubhouse, but Roberts did not have close contact with Price, and he downplayed concern over the veteran pitcher’s interactions with teammates prior to learning of his positive test.
Mitch White was just placed on MLB’s COVID injured list, however it is unclear if the cases are related.
