The Los Angeles Dodgers activated Cody Bellinger from the 10-day disabled list on Wednesday and optioned Kyle Farmer to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Bellinger starts at first base and bats cleanup in his return to the lineup.
He served as a designated hitter for the Arizona League Dodgers on Tuesday night, going 1-for-4 with a three-run home run and sacrifice fly; his four RBI were a game-high. Bellinger returns to a Dodgers team that again appears to be in need of a spark.
They’re on a three-game losing streak and twice have been shut out in their past six games. The Dodgers are 78-23 in games Bellinger plays in and 13-16 when he does not appear.
The 22-year-old had been on the disabled list since Aug. 22 (retroactive to Aug. 20) with a mild right ankle sprain. Bellinger felt capable of playing through the minor injury, but understood the Dodgers’ preference to err on the side of caution.
He’s batting .274/.356/.612 with 19 doubles, two triples, 34 home runs, 79 RBI, a .393 wOBA and 146 wRC+ in 101 games. Bellinger is one home run shy of matching Mike Piazza’s Dodgers rookie record.
Farmer returns to Oklahoma City after a second stint with the Dodgers. He went 0-for-2 with a strikeout in two pinch-hit appearances during his latest time up. Overall, Farmer is 4-for-12 with one double, two RBI and three strikeouts.
In 55 games with Oklahoma City, he’s batting .311/.360/.495 with 15 doubles, one triple, seven home runs and 35 RBI.
