Less than two years after Clayton Kershaw and the Los Angeles Dodgers won the 2020 World Series, the Los Angeles Rams and Matthew Stafford now have a chance to bring another title back to the city in Super Bowl LVI against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Kershaw and Stafford have been friends dating back to their childhood when both played youth sports together and graduated from Highland Park High School in Texas in 2006.
Now, both athletes are stars in L.A. and with the Rams playing the Super Bowl in their home SoFi Stadium, it is sure to draw many of the cities biggest celebrities to the game.
Among those stars will be Kershaw, who confirmed he is going to be in attendance to support his friend and sitting in the stands, via the Dan Patrick Show:
“I wasn’t too picky for the Super Bowl. I was just like, get in the game, but I’m a seat guy this time. I’m going to be in the seats. … Yeah, I was like, ‘Matthew, are you busy this week? I know we text like once every two months, but if you can get me a few tickets.’ I actually went through the Rams and bought some tickets. I’m excited.”
Now that he is committed to going, the main question left for Kershaw to decide on is what he will be wearing to the game. The speculation is Kershaw would wear a Stafford jersey, but he isn’t a fan of the NFL uniform:
“I thought about that. The baseball jersey is a lot more comfortable because of the buttons in the front. You can kind of wear it as a jacket almost. The football jerseys are a little tight fit. I might just go hoodie, but I haven’t really made up my mind.”
While Kershaw might not want to wear a jersey, a hoodie probably wouldn’t be the best choice for the southpaw either.
The forecast for the game on Sunday is 87 degrees, which would be the hottest Super Bowl in history, passing the previous record of 84 degrees when it was played in the L.A. Memorial Coliseum in 1973.
Stafford appreciates Kershaw’s support
After the Rams advanced to the Super Bowl, Stafford said he and Kershaw talked but didn’t go into too many specifics about the game.
“He’s excited for me, which I appreciate. We didn’t get too deep into what it’s like or what to expect. His job is so much different than mine. He’s just excited.
“Just cool to be doing it in the same city as him. Been such a big fan of his career for so long, it’s cool to just connect with him and have him not only be excited for myself, but our team and our success.”
