The Los Angeles Dodgers outrighted Brandon Beachy to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday, leaving 39 players on the 40-man roster.
Beachy will be among the group of players participating in big league camp during Spring Training with the Dodgers as a non-roster invitee.
The Dodgers re-signed the 29 year old in early January to a one-year, $1.5 million contract. Beachy’s deal includes incentives based on games pitched, starts, and making the Opening Day roster.
Heading into Spring Training last year, Los Angeles stockpiled plenty of pitchers. Beachy was among their additions, signing a one-year, $2.75 million contract with a club option for 2016.
At the time of signing, Beachy was recovering from a second Tommy John surgery that forced him to miss the entire 2014 season with the Atlanta Braves. Beachy made two starts with the Dodgers in July, allowing seven runs on 10 hits, with six walks and five strikeouts in eight innings.
He was designated for assignment and outrighted to Triple-A. Beachy was 1-1 with a 3.64 ERA and 1.29 WHIP over 10 games (nine starts) with Oklahoma City. He elected free agency last October.
For his career, Beachy is 14-12 with a 3.36 ERA, 3.41 FIP and 1.16 WHIP in 48 Major-League starts. Barring injuries in the Dodgers rotation, Beachy figures to spend much of the 2016 season in Triple-A.
With a vacant spot on the 40-man roster, the road may now be cleared for the Dodgers to make their expected signing of Cuban right-hander Yaisel Sierra official.
