Los Angeles Dodgers Minor League free agent Nolan Long announced on Instagram he has signed with the Oakland Athletics. It marks the end of his tenure with the Dodgers, who selected the right-hander out of Wagner College with their 16th-round pick in the 2015 MLB Draft.
That was a second time Long was taken in the Draft, as he was previously selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 38th round in 2012.
Long expressed his appreciation for the Dodgers organization, with part of his caption including, “You developed me into the best version of myself as a player and introduced me to the greatest staff, and some of the closest friends that I would give the shirt off my back to for the rest of my life.”
In part because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic causing the cancellation of the 2020 Minor League season, Long last pitched in 2019.
He was assigned to Double-A Tulsa in May of last season, but the following month was placed on the 60-day injured list.
Long went 29-14 with a 3.57 ERA and 1.27 WHIP in 155 games (28 starts) over parts of five Minor League seasons with the Dodgers.
Dodgers free agents signing elsewhere
Long is the latest Minor Leaguer who has left the Dodgers, with Jesus Vargas, Nelfri Contreras and Carlos Santiago among those doing so earlier in the offseason.
As for additions, L.A. signed Tomas Telis and Eddy Alvarez to respective Minor League contracts, and re-signed Yefry Ramirez.
