The Los Angeles Dodgers selected the contract of Matt Gage and immediately optioned him to Triple-A Oklahoma City. J.P. Feyereisen was outrighted to Oklahoma City after clearing waivers in order to make room for Gage on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster.

It’s believed the roster move was prompted by Gage having an opt-out date in his Minor League contract approaching. Now that the left-hander is on the 40-man roster, one hurdle has been cleared to potentially joining the Dodgers bullpen at some point this season.

Gage began the season on the Minor League injured list and was released April 2 as a corresponding move to the Dodgers claiming Taylor Trammell off waivers. However, he quickly made his way back to the organization by signing a new Minor League contract.

Gage has gone 1-2 with a 2.79 ERA and 1.29 WHIP over 18 appearances with Oklahoma City. Included in that is 6.1 consecutive scoreless innings over his last five games.

Gage last pitched for Oklahoma City on Friday, completing one inning out of the bullpen.

Feyereisen was optioned to Triple-A on June 21 when the Dodgers recalled Landon Knack, who is filling a need in the starting rotation.

Feyereisen missed the entire 2023 season due to right shoulder surgery, but figured to play a major role in the Dodgers bullpen this year. He’s endured somewhat of a rollercoaster season thus far and largely struggled in 10 appearances for L.A.

The 31-year-old did turn in seven consecutive scoreless appearances before allowing four runs at Coors Field on June 17.

Feyereisen is 1-4 with a 6.75 ERA in 15 games (two starts) for the Oklahoma City Baseball Club.

How did Dodgers acquire Matt Gage?

The Dodgers acquired Gage along with prospect Christian Zazueta Jr. in a trade that sent Caleb Ferguson the New York Yankees in February.
