The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates in an 11-7 win on Thursday at PNC Park, avoiding a series sweep in the finale.
The Dodgers opened the game with back-to-back singles from Mookie Betts and Shohei Ohtani, which was promptly followed up with a three-run home run from Freddie Freeman. The baseball left the bat at 109.7 mph as the veteran lefty muscled his club out to a 3-0 lead.
In five games during the month of June, Freeman is batting .389/.455/.889 with two home runs, one double, one triple and five RBI.
After a double from Teoscar Hernández, Miguel Rojas drove him in with a single to cap off a four-run first inning.
Dodgers right-hander Walker Buehler squandered a four-run lead after spotty defense extended innings and his four-seam fastball was hammered. In the top of the fifth, outfielder Teoscar Hernández slugged his 13th home run of the regular season.
From there, the Dodgers never looked back.
Andy Pages was hit by a pitch and Rojas singled before Kiké Hernández doubled home another run. A throwing error led to the Dodgers scoring their seventh run, and then Betts homered to make it a 10-4 game.
The demise of Freddie Freeman was greatly exaggerated.

The Dodgers added another run in the sixth inning when Teoscar Hernández singled and Andy Pages walked, which was followed by a double from Rojas to make it 11-4.
The bullpen was stellar after Buehler exited the game, holding the Pirates to three earned run over six innings. Reliever Evan Phillips allowed three runs on four hits in the eighth inning, being the only blemish in an otherwise solid game.
Hernández had three hits on the day, including a double and a single to go with his solo homer. He raised his on-base plus slugging to .792, a much-needed three-hit game after a recent slump.
Miguel Rojas also had a great game, tallying three hits with two RBI.
Blake Treinen continues dominance with Dodgers
With another shutdown inning, right-hander Blake Treinen notched his 11th appearance this season. The 35-year-old has struck out 16 batters in his 10.2 innings of work, and has yet to allow an earned run.
Opponents muster a meager .184 batting average against, and with just one walk allowed, his WHIP of 0.75 makes him one of the Dodgers’ most reliable arms.
