The Los Angeles Dodgers avoided a four-game sweep by the Atlanta Braves with a 3-1 win on Sunday to finish their homestand on a positive note.

While Bobby Miller was in the midst of what would become the longest start of his career, Charlie Morton kept the Dodgers off the board through four innings.

He wound up running into trouble in the fifth when James Outman led off with a walk. Miguel Rojas followed that with an RBI double that put the Dodgers up 1-0.

The Braves then elected to play their infield in, which backfired as Mookie Betts’ flare went to normal shortstop depth and rolled into left field for an RBI base hit.

Betts’ single chased Morton from the game at four-plus innings. Morton entered the day having allowed just one run over his last four starts.

While the Braves bullpen initially kept the Dodgers off the scoreboard, Outman provided some insurance with an RBI base hit in the bottom of the eighth.

Defensively, Jason Heyward made a terrific sliding catch in right field to end the sixth inning.

Shortly after the game went final, Betts was named National League Player of the Month for August, and Outman earned Rookie of the Month honors for a second time this season.

Bobby Miller leads Dodgers pitching

Facing the Braves for a second time in his career — with the previous outing being an MLB debut — Miller logged seven innings and allowed just one run. That came on Matt Olson’s home run in the seventh inning, which snapped a string of Miller retiring 16 batters in a row.

Shelby Miller followed by pitching a scoreless eighth inning and Brusdar Graterol converted the save opportunity.
