The Los Angeles Dodgers earned a big series win over the Colorado Rockies, capping off the weekend series with a 9-6 victory on Sunday afternoon to move within a half-game of first place in the National League West.
After a lackluster offensive performance on Saturday, the Dodgers got things going early on Sunday by scoring two runs in the first inning on an RBI double by Manny Machado and RBI single from David Freese.
Kiké Hernandez then added to that lead in the top of the second with a home run to deep left-center field. The long ball was Hernandez’s 20th of the season, marking the first time in his career that he has reached the milestone.
From there, it was all Justin Turner offensively as he reached base in all six of his plate appearances, falling a triple shy of a cycle. Included in that was a two-run home run in the sixth inning to straightaway center field.
Turner also doubled twice, singled and hit a line drive to left field that Matt Holiday was not able to hang onto, resulting in a run scoring and Turner ending up on third base.
Chris Taylor also came up with a big hit on the day, hitting a double to deep center that drove in two. Alex Verdugo also contributed with an RBI single in the ninth inning to give the Dodgers an insurance run and cap off their big day at the plate.
