The Los Angeles Dodgers extended their winning streak to nine games by defeating the Milwaukee Brewers, 6-2, behind a strong performance by Bobby Miller and contributions from J.D. Martinez, Miguel Rojas and Mookie Betts.
After allowing a leadoff single and issuing a walk to put two on with nobody out in the first inning, Miller retired 18 batters in a row. The stretch did include Milwaukee taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning on Sal Frelick’s force out.
Following the Dodgers’ win, Miller cited the importance of getting the leadoff hitter out. He noted when failing to do so in the first inning, it led to a run, and that he otherwise kept the Brewers off the board because of retiring the leadoff batter.
Miller’s night came to an end at 74 pitches over six innings as the Dodgers keep usage heading into the postseason in mind. He exited with a 6-1 lead thanks to a five-run sixth inning.

Adrian Houser retired the first nine batters faced before Mookie Betts led off the fourth inning with an infield single. Freddie Freeman reached on an error, but both were stranded to end the inning.
A single by David Peralta to lead off the fifth and a Jason Heyward double wound up sparking the Dodgers. Rojas’ RBI groundout tied the game before Houser could get through the inning.
The Dodgers then took over in the sixth, beginning with J.D. Martinez hitting an RBI double that broke the tie in his return to the lineup after last playing on August 6. Hoby Milner replaced Houser and promptly allowed a pinch-hit, two-run single to Kiké Hernández.
Rojas added to recent hot stretch with a two-out RBI base hit, and Betts also singled to drive in a run.
Rojas led all players with three RBI and has six in his past two games.
Dodgers bullpen saved
Ryan Yarbrough followed Miller by completing a three-inning save. He allowed a solo home run to Carlos Santana but bounced back to retire the final nine batters faced.
The save was Yarbrough’s first of his career.
