The Los Angeles Dodgers continued swinging hot bats in the desert as they defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks, 11-6, on Labor Day to earn a big series win that bolstered their hopes of clinching the National League West title.

Chris Taylor helped spark the Dodgers to taking a lead as he opened the third inning with a double. Mookie Betts hit a one-out RBI single and Freddie Freeman followed with a two-run home run.

That was the start of a big day for Freeman as he contributed with a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning and added a second home run of the game in the eighth.

Sandwiched in between Freeman’s contributions were a two-run single by Will Smith and Betts driving a pair in on his double. Tommy Edman’s RBI groundout capped off the Dodgers’ 11-run game.

Jack Flaherty held the Diamondbacks to just one run over 5.2 innings. He struck out the side in the second inning and finished with seven strikeouts.

Meanwhile, Shohei Ohtani had three stolen bases to give him 46 this season. Ohtani became the first player in MLB history with at least 43 home runs and 43 stolen bases, and is closing in on a remarkable 50-50 season.

Dodgers series win vs. Diamondbacks

By taking three of four games at Chase Field, the Dodgers clinched a series win against the Diamondbacks, and thus head-to-head tiebreaker. That could become key if Arizona climbs back into the NL West race and catches L.A. in the standings.

It may not be a likely scenario, however, as the Dodgers now are six games ahead of the third-place Diamondbacks in the NL West standings. The San Diego Padres are in second place at five games back of the Dodgers.
