Emmet Sheehan turned in five scoreless innings and Max Muncy had the Los Angeles Dodgers’ only two hits, both of which were home runs, in a 3-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds. The Dodgers snapped a two-game losing streak by hanging on at Dodger Stadium.
Heading into the night, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said he believed Sheehan would have a strong outing. The rookie right-hander validated that confidence by holding the Reds to just two hits and one walk.
Sheehan was provided an early lead thanks to Muncy’s two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning. Muncy’s second home run of the game broke a 2-2 tie to put the Dodgers up for good.

“It was pretty much Max Muncy and Emmet versus the Reds,” Roberts said after the game. “He had a big night. We couldn’t figure (Luke) Weaver out, but we scored enough runs to win a ballgame. It was good to see Max do well.”
Muncy was in position to provide another go-ahead home run thanks to Joe Kelly working out of a jam in his first game back with the Dodgers.
Kelly inherited two runners from Caleb Ferguson and issued a walk to load the bases before ending the top of the sixth inning with a strikeout.
Kelly was greeted to a loud ovation upon entering the game and more cheers after escaping the jam.
Max Muncy makes MLB history
Muncy became the only MLB player in the Modern Era (since 1901) to have two tie-breaking home runs for his team’s only two hits of the game.
Muncy also is the first Dodger player since RBI became official in 1920 to record all of his team’s hits and drive in all of their runs in a win (minimum two hits).
