The Pittsburgh Pirates were not able to slow the Los Angeles Dodgers bats all weekend, resulting in a three-game sweep that was capped off Corey Seager and Joc Pederson showing off their power in an 11-7 victory Sunday afternoon at PNC Park.
As has been the case all season long, the Dodgers offense made the Pirates pitching staff work throughout the entirety of the game. They strung together 12 hits while walking eight times and being hit by three pitches.
Seager got the offense started in the top of the second inning when he launched a solo home run to straightaway center field off Pirates starter Chris Archer. The homer was Seager’s fifth of the season as he has begun to find his stroke in recent weeks.
Pederson was the only other Dodger to leave the yard on the day, hitting his 15th home run of the season to lead off the sixth inning. He finished 2-for-5 with a walk, also adding an RBI single in the sixth inning as the Dodgers batted around.
Meanwhile, Justin Turner and Matt Beaty, both had career days at the plate. Turner earned his first career five-hit game, finishing 5-for-5 with a walk. He also scored three runs.
Beaty went into the day with just one RBI in his first career nine Major League games with the Dodgers. He drove in four on Sunday, marking the first Los Angeles rookie to have at least four RBI in a single game since Cody Bellinger in 2017.
The Dodgers finished out their season series against the Pirates with a 6-0 record. They have dominated Pittsburgh over the last three seasons, going 17-9. Sunday’s win closed out the best road trip of the season for the Dodgers thus far as they went 6-2.
