After losing two straight games in which their offense went quiet, the Los Angeles Dodgers got back on track Saturday afternoon with a 7-2 win over the San Francisco Giants.
It was a team effort as the Dodgers slugged out 11 hits while also walking six times, but it was Corey Seager who led the way.
He has begun to get hot after a bit of a rough start to the season, which can be expected coming off two major surgeries. Seager had a career day on Saturday, tying a career high with four hits in five at-bats while driving in four runs.
After the four-hit day, Seager has raised his season batting line to .270/.353/.465 with 38 RBI, which ranks second on the team behind only Cody Bellinger.
Speaking of Bellinger, what made Seager’s day so special is that he was hitting behind Bellinger and the Giants decided to intentionally walk the leading National League MVP candidate on three separate occasions to face Seager instead and he made them pay each time.
Justin Turner, who has been dealing with hamstring tightness over the last couple of weeks, also had a very strong day at the plate. Turner went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a walk and sacrifice fly, driving in a pair of runs.
Turner, Bellinger and Seager combined to reached base in 11 of their 15 plate appearances to anchor the middle of the Dodgers’ lineup.
Rich Hill worked in and out of trouble a few times throughout the course of his outing, limiting the damage to two runs in five innings to earn his third win of the year. Los Angeles’ bullpen was then flawless in relief of Hill, striking out six in four shutout innings to close out the victory.
