The Los Angeles Dodgers extended their winning streak to five games in the series opener against the Milwaukee Brewers, coming away with a 3-1 victory at Miller Park.
Runs were at a premium with Julio Urias and Zach Davies both turning in strong starts, but the Dodgers finally broke through against the Brewers bullpen in the top of the sixth inning.
Cody Bellinger got it started with a solo home run to right-center field off Brewers reliever Matt Albers. The long ball was Bellinger’s 10th of the season, which ties him with Khris Davis and Christian Yelich for the Major League lead.
The offense was just getting started there though as A.J. Pollock followed Bellinger’s homer with a single to left. It didn’t take long for him to come around and score s Max Muncy then hit a home run of his own, going the other way his fifth of the year to extend the lead to 3-0.
The Dodgers’ highlights on the night weren’t just limited to home runs. Alex Verdugo provided one on the defensive side of the ball in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Trying to protect the shutout, Joe Kelly allowed up a two-out single to Lorenzo Cain. Hernan Perez tried to score from second base, but Verdugo fired an absolute strike to home at 98.4 mph, per Statcast, to get him and end the inning.
Urias also had a strong performance for the Dodgers, striking out a career-high nine batters. He tossed six shutout innings while allowing just one hit and two walks to earn his first Major League victory since Aug. 27, 2016.
