Less than a week after Shohei Ohtani stunned the baseball world and Los Angeles Dodgers clubhouse by revealing he is married, Gavin Lux got engaged to girlfriend Molly O’Boyle.
O’Boyle posted photographs of the couple celebrating the proposal on her Instagram account, which Lux then shared as well. The first public picture Lux shared of himself and O’Boyle was from the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation Blue Diamond Gala in 2022.
Lux getting engaged comes ahead of what’s expected to be a key season for the former first-round draft pick. He was primed to take over as the Dodgers’ starting shortstop last season but suffered a torn ACL and LCL in his right knee and missed all of 2023.
“I think the first week after it happened, I kind of sat back and thought about it a lot,” Lux recently recalled.

“Freddie (Freeman), when he called me, was like, ‘Hey man, you can give yourself a couple days to be sad and once those days are over, you’ve got to get to work. Rehabbing is your job.’ That’s kind of the mindset I took and I didn’t really look back at it too much after the first week.”
After spending the year navigating an arduous and at times tedious rehab, Lux was back on the field last month for the first time since his right knee injury. Coincidentally, his first game back came at Peoria Sports Complex, where Lux saw his 2023 season end before it began.
“It just felt good to run around and be a baseball player again,” he said. “Especially coming back here, where literally I blew it out. It was just fun to get some at-bats, feel normal again and do what you grew up doing.”
Dodgers confident in Gavin Lux’s defense
While Lux endured some growing pains while attempting to play the outfield and second base, he and the Dodgers are confident a return to shortstop will shore up some defensive questions.
The 26-year-old has shown flashes of promise thus far in Spring Training but also some rust, which was to be expected considering his extended stretch of not being able to play.
