The 2023-2024 MLB free agency class is loaded with starting pitchers, but there are several intriguing relievers on the market as well. Among them is Yariel Rodríguez, who pitched in Nippon Professional Baseball during the 2022 season.
The right-hander went 6-2 with a 1.15 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 9.9 strikeouts per nine in 56 appearances for the Chunichi Dragons in his most recent season. He did not report to the team in 2023, but pitched in a starting role for Team Cuba during the World Baseball Classic.
Rodríguez has been training in the Dominican Republic and recently held a number of showcases for interested teams. According to MLB insider Francys Romero, the Dodgers are among the top suitors to sign Rodríguez:

Along with the Dodgers, other big market teams like the New York Mets, New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies have been linked to Rodríguez throughout the offseason.
Rodríguez’s four-seam fastball reportedly touched 94-97 mph during his workouts. He possesses a five-pitch mix that also includes a slider, curveball, splitter and changeup.
Rodríguez is being represented by Edgar Mercedes, who previously helped Yoenis Céspedes, Yunesky Maya, Luis Robert Jr. make the jump to the Majors.
What role will Yariel Rodríguez have?
Rodríguez has shown immense upside as a relief pitcher, but interested teams could attempt to stretch him out as a starter in Spring Training. He will turn 27 years old in March and should command a contract of at least five years.
