Among the new additions to the Los Angeles Dodgers roster for the 2023 season was signing David Peralta to a one-year contract. His deal was for a $6.5 million base salary but included incentives for days on the active roster.

Peralta had a long track record in the National League West from his career with the Arizona Diamondbacks, but the veteran outfielder was coming off back surgery to treat a herniated disc. Peralta had the operation prior to signing with the Dodgers.

He went on to enjoy a relatively successful season with the Dodgers, though struggled through the second half and required offseason surgery to repair a torn flexor tendon in his left elbow.

Peralta recently shared an update on Instagram of his progress with the rehab and recovery.

Peralta, who is a free agent for the second consecutive offseason, is expected to make a full recovery in time for Spring Training in 2024.

However, he’s yet to sign with a team and there have not been any public reports of the Dodgers or other clubs having interest.

Peralta batted .259/.294/.381 with 25 doubles, seven home runs and 55 RBI over 133 games while primarily filling a platoon role in left field. He went 1-for-6 with a double and started in all three NL Division Series games against the Diamondbacks.

Peralta suffered his flexor tendon injury around the All-Star break, and during the second half of the season hit just .231/.259/.319 over 59 games. In an unrelated issue, Peralta was hit by a pitch on the inside of his left elbow in September, but X-rays were negative and he only sustained a contusion.

David Peralta contract details

Peralta received an additional $1.5 million from the Dodgers due to reaching incentives based on time spent on the active roster. He reached all three bonuses by remaining on the Dodgers roster for 50, 100 and 150 active days, and thus earned a total of $8 million for 2023.
