The Los Angeles Dodgers concluded their final regular-season home series with a 7-4 comeback against the Colorado Rockies on Sunday, and thus, have finished the year with a record 59 wins at Dodger Stadium.
The previous L.A. franchise record was held by the 2017 Dodgers, who won 57 games at Chavez Ravine en route to their first World Series appearance in nearly three decades.
The 1953 Brooklyn team, also having won the National League pennant, holds the organization’s modern all-time record with 60 home wins; the 1899 club is the Dodgers’ all-time leader with 61.
While the season has been a success, the 2019 Dodgers ultimately fell just short of becoming the first NL team since the 1977 Philadelphia Phillies to win 60 home games in a single year.
L.A. established their dominance at Dodger Stadium right out of the gate, posting a 12-4 record from the end of March through all of April. Most notable during that stretch were separate three and four-game winning streaks.
The Dodgers followed suit with an 11-3 showing at home in May, completing sweeps of the Atlanta Braves and San Diego Padres. The final week of the month marked the start of a six-game winning streak that extended into the early days of June.
That month, L.A. posted an overall record of 11-2 at Dodger Stadium. They enjoyed another six-game winning streak in the second half of June, which included a series win over the San Francisco Giants and three-game sweep of the Colorado Rockies.
The Dodgers’ success at home carried over into the second half, as they went 6-5 in July, 12-4 in August and 7-4 in September. The club never hovered below .500 at any point in the regular season.
The Dodgers additionally proved they were one of the toughest teams to defeat at home this season with 12 walk-off victories. They fell just three wins short of matching the franchise’s all-time record.
What’s more, L.A. led all of baseball in attendance for the seventh season in a row. This year, the Dodgers broke the franchise record for Dodger Stadium attendance with 3,974,309 (49,066 average), surpassing the 2018 record of 3,857,500.
With just six games remaining in the regular season, the Dodgers will attempt to secure home-field advantage throughout the World Series. While they continue to trail the Houston Astros and New York Yankees in the standings, the club can conceivably reach their goal for the NL portion of the playoffs.
L.A. has already clinched home-field advantage for the NL Division Series, and the magic number to officially solidify the NL’s best record stands at just one.
With one more victory or an Atlanta Braves loss, the Dodgers will officially play host to the winner of the NL Wild Card Game in the first round of the postseason. The NLDS is scheduled to begin at Dodger Stadium on Thursday, Oct. 3.
