The Los Angeles Dodgers activated Gavin Lux and Dennis Santana off the injured list on Monday, and also recalled Mitch White before facing the Cincinnati Reds. David Price was placed on the IL due to a hamstring strain, and Garrett Cleaviner and DJ Peters were optioned.

Lux returns after missing time due to right wrist soreness. He was able to continue fielding and throwing during batting practice but swinging a bat proved problematic. Lux eventually progressed to taking at-bats at the Dodgers’ alternate training site over the weekend to clear a final hurdle before being activated.

He is starting at second base and batting seventh in the series opener against the Reds.

Santana was inactive for only two games as a result of falling under the weather after receiving a coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine. Because Santana was placed on the COVID-related IL, he was eligible to be reinstated before the standard 10-day minimum.

Cleavinger made his Dodgers debut in the 11th inning of the series finale with the Padres and gave up the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly. The left-hander issued a walk and collected one strikeout in his lone inning of work.

“I thought Cleav threw the baseball really well. Good to see him attack the strike zone. I thought he did a nice job,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said after the 8-7 loss.

Peters relished the opportunity to make his MLB debut at Dodger Stadium, but a first stint with the Dodgers was both brief and underwhelming. He went hitless with four strikeouts in five at-bats over three games (one start).

White is with the Dodgers for the first time this season. He recently pitched at the alternate site and is viewed as a candidate to give the team multiple innings per relief appearance.

Dodgers expect Price to miss multiple weeks

Price suffered a hamstring strain in Sunday’s loss to the San Diego Padres, which forced Roberts to adjust his blueprint for the final innings. An MRI revealed the injury to be a Grade 2 hamstring strain.

“That’s going to put him down a few weeks minimum,” Roberts said.
