Despite uncertainty hovering over the 2020 Major League Baseball season, there are a multitude of topics to discuss, involving the sport as a whole and Los Angeles Dodgers specifically.
Those were all topics discussed by host Jeff Spiegel and DodgerBlue.com senior writer/editor Daniel Starkand on the latest episode of “DodgerHeads.”
So too was the health of retired Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully, who recently was hospitalized after falling in his home. Scully has sent out multiple updates, the latest of which revealed he is in good spirits and recovering at home.
The “DodgerHeads” conversation then shifted to former Dodgers outfielder Andre Ethier’s comments about the Boston Red Sox sign-stealing scandal.
MLB commissioner Rob Manfred found the Red Sox guilty after a lengthy investigation, although ruled it wasn’t as egregious as the Houston Astros’ scandal, so Boston’s only punishments were a one-year suspension for their video replay operator and loss of a second-round pick in the 2020 Draft.
Ethier understandably was upset with the punishment and called out Manfred for his ruling. The commissioner previously came under fire for his handling of the Astros’ scandal, and initial response to that criticism.
The last big topic of discussion surrounded the latest report about when the 2020 MLB season will begin and the possibility of a World Cup-style tournament to decide postseason spots. Jeff and Daniel discussed how that would impact the Dodgers, who are in a good position to reach the postseason regardless of what format MLB decides to go with.
And finally, the slow closed with a reaction to a report that former Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig is set to sign with the rival San Francisco Giants, although that has not yet been confirmed.
