Dodger Stadium has become a semi-regular concert venue over recent years, and that picks back up this weekend with the “Hella Mega Tour” and “Aventura: Inmortal Stadium Tour” both rolling into Chavez Ravine.
Friday will see Green Day, Fall Out Boy, Weezer and special guests, The Interrupters, all take the stage at Dodger Stadium. The show’s original date was set for July 25, 2020, but got postponed due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The initial open-air tour dates featured stops in each act’s hometown. The Dodger Stadium show is representative of Weezer’s roots in L.A., while a visit to Wrigley Field was for Fall Out Boy, and Oracle Park served as the East Bay homecoming for Green Day.
Then on Sunday, Aventura performs at Dodger Stadium for one of the final stops on their tour. The Dominican-American group has already made stops at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Globe Life Field and Wrigley Field.
While the Dodgers are on the road during both concerts this weekend, Joe Davis and Orel Hershiser have continued to call all games from Dodger Stadium due to MLB broadcasting teams still not traveling.
Davis and Hershiser are taking their act to the SportsNet LA studio, where they will call a pivotal series against the San Francisco Giants from a remote booth that functions and connects to the broadcast truck at Dodger Stadium, just like their normal setup.
That won’t be an issue much further down the line when Sir Elton John makes a triumphant return to Dodger Stadium on Nov. 19 and 20, 2022, for his “Farewell Yellow Brick Road Final Tour.”
Dodger Stadium policy
Prohibited items include glass bottles, cans, weapons, poles, umbrellas, backpacks, hard sided coolers, thermoses, beach balls, inflatables, banners, signs, flags, use of laser pointers, firecrackers/fireworks, boom boxes, air horns, whistles, musical instruments, pets, unmanned aerial vehicles or drones, cannabis and other products at the discretion of Dodger Stadium Management.
Adult diaper bags and infant diaper bags that accompany infants are permitted, along with clear plastic bags smaller than 12″ x 12″ x 6″. Non-clear bags must be smaller than 5″ x 8″ x 2″ (i.e. the size of half a sheet of paper) may be brought into the stadium.
Dodger Stadium concerts
The Dodgers have been aggressive in their efforts to bring concerts to Dodger Stadium since
announcing a multiyear exclusive booking agreement with the Oak View Group (OVG) in February 2015.
OVG was founded by former AEG executive Tim Leiweke and prominent music and entertainment executive Irving Azoff.
Notable concerts held at Dodger Stadium both prior to and since the agreement include The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Beyoncé, Billy Joel, the Eagles, Steely Dan, Doobie Brothers and Paul McCartney, among others.
