Dodger Stadium is among the five coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination locations in Los Angeles that are temporarily closing due to shortages. Mayor Eric Garcetti made the announcement Wednesday.
The select vaccination sites will remain closed at least through Saturday due to no longer having a supply of first doses of the Moderna vaccine. Dodger Stadium is the largest vaccination location in L.A. and one of the biggest in the country.
Garcetti voiced some frustration over the varying deliveries of vaccinations. This week L.A. only received 16,000, which was drastically down from 90,000 the week prior and 29,000 before that. The mayor added L.A. has administered more than 290,000 vaccinations.
“We’re vaccinating people faster than new vials are arriving here in Los Angeles,” Garcetti said during a press conference Wednesday night. “I’m very concerned right now. I’m concerned as your mayor that our vaccine supply is uneven, it’s unpredictable and, too often, inequitable.”
This marks a second interruption since Dodger Stadium transitioned from a COVID-19 testing to vaccination site in January. It was shut down for an hour on Saturday, Jan. 30, due to protestors gathering at an entrance.
The Los Angeles Fire Department closed the entrance and LA Police Department officers responded to the scene, though no arrests were made.
Dodger Stadium vaccination hours
Normally, the home of the Dodgers is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday. Those wishing to receive a vaccination must first register online and book an appointment through the city’s website.
There also is an option to sign up for text and email alerts when you or a family member becomes eligible to receive the vaccine. If receiving the first vaccine dose at Dodger Stadium or another a city of Los Angeles location, Carbon Health will automatically schedule your second vaccine dose appointment.
