The Los Angeles Dodgers offense continued its recent tear, collecting 14 hits in a 5-3 victory to complete a sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks and extend their winning streak to six games.
All six wins came on the homestand, which began with a series sweep of the San Diego Padres. “It was great. The main thing is we’re playing really good baseball overall,” manager Dave Roberts said of the club’s excellent week.
“Ultimately to come away winning every game this homestand was pretty impressive. We’ve just got to keep going. Still a lot of good baseball left to be had. Enjoy the off day and get ready for the Reds.”
In addition to finishing their homestand with a perfect 6-0 record, the Dodgers picked up a full game on the San Francisco Giants for the first time since Sept. 4, as they suffered a 9-6 loss to the Padres.
L.A. now trails San Francisco by one game in the National League West standings with only 15 remaining on their schedule. “That’s our expectation, to win every day,” Roberts said.
“Those guys, like we’ve said, are playing great baseball. We’ve just got to keep winning baseball games. If we do that, it’ll take care of itself.”
The Dodgers resume play Friday when they begin their final road trip of the regular season against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park in what could be a potential preview of the NL Wild Card Game.
L.A. also will play the Colorado Rockies and Diamondbacks on the road before returning home for six final games of the season against the Padres and Milwaukee Brewers.
Dodgers clinch home-field advantage for potential NL Wild Card Game
With their win against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday, the Dodgers officially secured home-field advantage for a potential spot in the NL Wild Card Game.
If they fail to catch the Giants in the standings, L.A. figures to face one of the St. Louis Cardinals, Cincinnati Reds, Padres, Philadelphia Phillies or New York Mets.
The Cardinals currently hold a one-game lead over the Reds for the second Wild Card spot, though they are far from a lock of clinching as the aforementioned teams are within five games of each other.
