After having his 2023 Minor League season cut short due to a left shoulder injury that required surgery, Los Angeles Dodgers prospect Andy Pages is making up for the lost time with an impressive showing in Spring Training.
The 23-year-old is batting .400/.500/1.000 with a double, triple, home run and five RBI through his first 11 plate appearances of Cactus League play entering Thursday.
Pages was among the standouts in the Dodgers’ 6-4 loss to the Texas Rangers as he hit a two-run homer and tripled while scoring two runs. “He’s having a terrific camp. He’s healthy, he looks good, and just with the at-bats, he’s taking really good at-bats,” manager Dave Roberts said of Pages.
“He’s swinging at strikes and slugging them. [Wednesday], hit a homer and triple, and then made a big play out there in right field to save our pitcher from making some extra pitches. He’s playing both sides of the baseball and also running the bases really well.”
Pages is only nine months removed from undergoing surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder but looks better than ever at the plate and could see time on the Major League roster this season. “That’s a tough surgery. The lead shoulder, but he’s in great shape,” Roberts began.
“I’ll tell you, talking to our player development guys, he’s one of the most in-tune players we have in the organization and the most prepared. He’s going to play in the big leagues for a long time. To see him arrive at this year some point, wouldn’t surprise me.”
A previous report suggested that Pages was a long shot to receive a call-up from the Dodgers in 2024, but those plans could change if he stays healthy and continues his offensive tear.
Pages will likely begin the season with Triple-A Oklahoma City, where he appeared in one game last year before the shoulder injury sidelined him. Pages has primarily played right field in his Minor League career but also has experience at the other two outfield spots and third base.
