From the group of Los Angeles Dodgers free agents, Corey Seager far and away is expected to sign the most lucrative contract this offseason.

He is part of start-studded shortstop class on the market and considered to be one of the top options available, along with Carlos Correa. To date, the Dodgers, New York Yankees and Texas Rangers are among the teams that have been prominently linked to Seager.

There’s some belief his free agency will boil down to deciding between remaining with the Dodgers or joining the Yankees.

However, the Rangers could be a bit of a wild card, and according to Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News, have met with Seager, Trevor Story and Marcus Semien in their search for a shortstop:

The Rangers have met face-to-face with Irving’s Trevor Story this week in Arlington. According to sources, they have shuttled to California to meet with the Scott Boras-repped duo of Marcus Semien and Corey Seager.

The Rangers recently were said to have been involved with Chris Taylor as well. Texas has prior ties to both Seager and Taylor by way of manager Chris Woodward, who was with both players during his time as Dodgers third base coach.

That also holds true with Clayton Kershaw, whom the Rangers have been speculated as a potential landing spot if he does not remain with the Dodgers.

Although Seager was limited to 95 games because of time missed after sustaining a right hand fracture, he finished the season batting .306/.394/.521 with 22 doubles, 16 home runs and 57 RBI.

Seager declined qualifying offer

If the Rangers are to sign Seager or Taylor, they would lose a pick — or two if adding both players — in the 2022 MLB Draft because both rejected the qualifying offer from the Dodgers. L.A. additionally would receive one each for both players as compensation.

Of course, that is subject to change if a new system is implemented as part of a collective bargaining agreement.
