While the Los Angeles Dodgers and Colorado Rockies had nothing to gain in Sunday’s season finale, both teams fielded a lineup that included several regular starters. Corey Seager went 3-for-3 with a pair of singles, double, and an RBI in a 6-3 win. The three-hit game was his first since Aug. 23.
Seager’s double came in the first inning, and he later scored on Cody Bellinger’s sun double to center field that Charlie Blackmon lost at the warning track. Seager’s one-out base hit in the third was followed by a Justin Turner double, and Kiké Hernandez’s sacrifice fly with the bases loaded extended the lead.
With two outs and runners at the corners, Seager’s soft grounder to the hole at shortstop left the only play for Alexi Amarista at second base. Taylor beat the throw, which allowed Puig to score from third base.
The Dodgers padded their lead in the fifth behind Joc Pederson’s two-out RBI double and Charlie Culberson’s walk with the bases loaded. Pederson’ second double of the game extended the Dodgers’ lead to 6-1 in the seventh inning.
Ross Stripling started what was a bullpen game for the Dodgers, allowed just one hit and issued a walk over two shutout innings. Edward Paredes struck out two and limited the Rockies to a hit in his inning of work.
Maeda worked around a two-out walk in the fourth, and consecutive singles in the fifth to complete a pair of scoreless innings. Brandon McCarthy entered in the sixth and promptly allowed a leadoff double to Trevor Story.
He advanced to third base on a double play and scored on Tony Wolters’ two-out single. The Rockies also got to McCarthy in the seventh inning, on Mike Tauchman’s RBI triple and Raimel Tapia’s run-scoring double.
Walker Buehler worked around a leadoff single and subsequent walk to pitch a scoreless inning in the eighth, and Josh Fields finished the game out with a clean ninth.
