After what seemed like it was two years in the making, the Los Angeles Dodgers finally acquired second baseman Brian Dozier from the Minnesota Twins before the non-waiver trade deadline this season.
Dozier made his Dodgers debut in Wednesday night’s win over the Milwaukee Brewers, and he certainly made a strong first impression. Dozier. He went 3-for-4 with a double and home run.
His homer came on the first pitch from Chase Anderson and gave the Dodgers back-to-back solo shots that tied the game in the fifth inning. Anderson had a perfect game working before surrendering the long ball to Yasmani Grandal.
The Dodger Stadium crowd went into a craze and Kiké Hernandez pushed Dozier to the top of the dugout steps for a curtain call.
After the game, Dozier discussed how it felt to get that reception and to earn a victory in his debut, as seen on SportsNet LA:
“It was a fun game, especially after the homer and curtain call and all that. That was pretty cool, a lot of different emotions. But with all that being said, coming out on top, that means the most.”
Dozier went on to add that the Dodgers lineup being so deep makes his job a lot easier:
“For me, the lineup is so deep, which is really cool for me to see. You got guys that can rake in front of you and behind you. There’s not really a letdown anywhere one through nine, so that’s cool to see and I had a lot of fun tonight.”
Second base has not been a position that the Dodgers have gotten a lot of production out of this season, so the acquisition of Dozier could end up being a crucial one if they want to not only return to but win the World Series.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts would not commit to Dozier playing every day, although if he continues to hit the way he did Wednesday night then it will be very difficult to take him out of the lineup.
