The Los Angeles Dodgers and Jacoby & Meyers again partnered for a backpack drive at Dodger Stadium to help local students get prepared for the new school year.
SportsNet LA reporter Kirsten Watson welcomed children and their families when they entered at the top deck, where the likes of Dodgers coaches Dino Ebel and Clayton McCullough, along with Bobby Miller, Miguel Rojas and Chris Taylor distributed backpacks and caps.
“It’s great to meet these families and kids, take pictures and get them ready for the school year,” Taylor said. “I think anytime you get to interact with your fans, meet them in person and see their reaction, it puts things into perspective. That’s why we do this.
“To make an impact on those who look up to us. To be able to interact with them and see the smiles on their faces, means a lot.”
Taylor and his wife Mary also participated in the Dodgers’ backpack drive last year, and have further given back to the community through their CT3 Foundation.
Miller is more of a newcomer to participating in Dodgers community events, but he too is aware of the impact players can have.
“It’s a really good event,” Miller said. “Seeing these kids ready to go to school and the smile you can put on their faces is what it’s all about. It makes me happy.
“It’s super important to show the community and all the kids that we care and we’re willing to do anything to help them out.”
Saturday’s event was part of a three-day effort that culminated with 2,500 backpacks and schools supplies being given away to fans as they left Dodger Stadium following the series finale against the Colorado Rockies.
Dodgers partnership with Jacoby & Meyers
In April 2021, the Dodgers announced a multi-year partnership to make Jacoby & Meyers the official law firm of the team.
“At Jacoby & Meyers we believe in the power of education,” managing partner Michael Akiva said. “It’s really the foundation of success. Getting ready for the school year is really important. You have so many different factors that lead to a good school year: a good school, good teachers.
“But a simple thing like a backpack can make the difference between emotionally and physically ready for the year, and being unprepared. So for us, it’s that little thing that makes a big difference in the school year.”
